Fiona, also known as Munch or just Fi. I guess I have not been keeping up on this blog. It wasn't getting many hits so I was not super motivated. That and I am more than happy to keep Fiona as long as I can. She is just a fun little dog to have around. She is silly, playful, and just a great companion. If I am home she is nearby. We kenneled her along with our 2 dogs for four days and they all did well I hear. I wasn't sure how she would take to people she did not know. I got a text within hours that she was getting belly rubs and the owner thought she was a hoot. When our dog sitter comes by they are best buddies also. Her potty training took a set back while my husband was home for weeks healing from surgery and missed her I need to get outside cues. If she messes inside it always is the same area so a potty pad may solve that. FIONA, or MUNCH as my husband calls her. A little downtime, sleepy moment. She is more settled than when we first got her here a few months ago. Then we called her CRAZY! Fiona hanging out with her buddy Suzie, Suzie was also from Fluffy Dog Rescue. Fiona is watching out our front window. The bird feeders are out there and she can see all the bird and squirrel action.
Miss FIONA Well like most, maybe all? of the dogs we have fostered I love this one also. She can be an irritating pest at times but for the most part, she is just a playful, silly, young thing. I ended up being home today and she has slept quietly in her doggie bed most of the time just like her older foster sisters. Our one dog Suzie is a good manners instructor for her and tries to teach Fiona when play gets too rough to tone it down. Fiona can learn very quickly who is her friend, especially if they give her yummy treats. She may react nervously at first introductions so we take that slow with her. She has been outside more as it has warmed up and is getting used to neighborhood noises and activity. Not too much alarm barking going on. She does howl at sirens though. One of her many cute quirks. I came home with a BAD migraine headache this week and she laid up by my head. She has never done that in bed before, could she know I needed a little TLC? Fiona Well, we are starting to get out for a few more walks as it is warming up. We got her a harness because she wants to pull so much I worried about her neck. Our dog walker used the word-crazy- to describe her enthusiasm. Today she got all barky and growly at a snowman and oversized Easter rabbit lawn decorations she saw. Just has a lot to learn about this big world yet. She did ignore kids out playing basketball, in the past they were scary monsters to her too. I seem to be having picture uploading issues. Sorry. Just know she is getting cuter each day.
FIONA She was her busy self outside today. So many things to sniff, twigs to chew and squirrels to chase. We have our back yard fenced in and this was money well spent. She may be a very small dog but she will not be happy just sitting on a couch all day. Wait did I hear a squirrel? Hmm, there seems to have been a squirrel in MY yard! Outside enjoying the sunshine
FIONA Nosy Nellie wants to know what is under that plastic thing? She likes the little warm up we have gotten. She is not that worried about cold. Runs around in the snow so much she has even put cuts on her pads from the way it is so sharp and icy right now. I do not put little sweaters on her unless it is really cold. I think she is much more of the tomboy type anyway. She always wants to carry something out with her.
FIONA We have had this little squirt hanging with us for 3 weeks now. She came up from Alabama on Jan. 26th and we brought her to our home Feb 1st. She is young and active. She is a tiny almost 8 pounds of the energizer bunny. If you do not have the patience and desire to train and help entertain a puppy-like dog she will not be for you. If you have a sense of humor, she will keep you laughing. She loves to play. Play can be with toys, another tolerant dog or her human. She wants to be a part of what you are up to and even gets her tiny feet stepped on from time to time because she is underfoot. She will be a very devoted buddy who will make it her mission to be your sidekick. With her luxating patella issue, it was stated by someone that she belongs in a "gentle" house. Umm, that I would say is not the case. She flies around the house and yard. Leaps on and off furniture. She tires our pet sitter out with 20 minutes of fetch ...
It has been quite a while since new photos or stories about SUZIE Q. She has become such a good buddy for our male dog that we are wrestling with the idea of trying to adopt her ourselves. Biggest con to that, 4 dogs to care for and we would be done fostering which my husband and I enjoy doing. So if that perfect fit home is out there save us from ourselves! Adopt Suzie into your lives. She is a lower energy gal that is still after three months with us at times wary of new things. She jumps in bed with my husband every morning and is very happy to see us when we get home but then is not pushy with her attention needs and is happy just hanging out in the same room. Does give me some slurpy kisses now and I love it. She tolerates our two female dogs but LOVES our mellow male. I think another lower energy"boyfriend" in her new home would be her wish. Our sweet, shy, silly Suzie Q. I took Suzie along with me this past Friday to the kennel she stayed at for a few days when first arriving in WI. Lisa who owns it saw a difference in her for the better. Much more relaxed and even willingly approached Lisa to say hi. She was awfully scruffy so Heidi the groomer there decided to see what some hand stripping(removing the dead hair) would do. That worked nice, Suzie for sure has a good amount of terrier in her mixed up family tree. Then Lisa got the scissors out and started trimming then nails needed to be trimmed. Suzie a good girl for all of it. A bit more tidy in appearance, but still a scruffy girl. Look who is the best dog at my house. Suzie SITS for her treat. These two are such good buddies. Lazy weekend in bed after humans get up.
Our silly Suzie Q has been with us for a little over 3 weeks. She just fits right in now. We give her free run of the house all day long and that has worked out. She manages to find a comfy spot to sleep while we are gone and has never pottied or chewed up our stuff. My hubby let her sleep on my side of the bed while I was out of town last weekend, the big softie. She does enjoy a good chew on a Nylabone. I have seen no aggression or possessive behavior with taking the bone away or when we hand out treats. She can be a bit pushy but listens when we remind her "not her turn yet". Gets along with our three dogs and sometimes all four dogs plus myself sit on the couch together. She did just fine when I did a pet store trip with her. Took a treat from a nice lady there too. She has come a long way with feeling more confident. She does pay attention what goes on outside and sometimes feels the need to bark when there is stuff going on . Shushes up when told to. She...
I guess we need to turn on the heat, Suzie and Patton are snuggling to stay warm. Really it is just that my Patton thinks she is "the bomb". I looked at the views on this blog after it got put up on Fluffy Dog Rescues Face book page. Lots of attention. Not sure if one of those views will lead to a forever home anytime soon. I better go get in all my loving now, just in case. So often people say they could not foster these dogs, would be too sad when they leave. Yes we are somewhat sad of course but so happy to see them go onto a new LIFE. Yes LIFE, so many fewer dogs are being killed in shelters because of rescues and foster homes. It just frees up space in the crowded shelters. In rural Alabama where these dogs come from it is constant intake of dogs. Thanks for giving these guys a chance. Either buy from a reputable breeder or adopt. No pet store/breeding mill pups please. OK rant over.
SUZIE Q chilling in the yard Beautiful girl WEEK 2 SUZIE Q We are enjoying sharing our home with this sweet foster dog. She no longer has to wear a leash at all times so we can get her to come in the kitchen to eat or to go in and out of the house. She trusts us and has caught on to our routines. Having other dogs to follow along helps too I think. Another thing I realize that worked was my husbands liberal use of treats with her. She just LOVES him now. We have been letting her sleep out of her kennel overnight with no problems at all. She picks a corner of the couch. She does enjoy sleeping, I let her sleep till 9:00 this Saturday morning and she still was not ready to face the day. Pretty lazy girl, I like that,ha ha. I was greeted at the door by 4 happy, tail wagging, barking dogs when I got home yesterday. Nice I thought here is Suzie with the gang. WAIT! Why is Suzie NOT in her crate? One week in and just as expected Suzie is settling in very well. I no longer think of her as scared Suzie, now she is silly Suzie. She has such a funny habit when happy. Like when we come home or even out of the bathroom. Hey dogs can't tell time, we really are not in there that long. She sits down or like a sit pretty and waves her two front legs up and down. Then high steps around with those two front legs like she is in a marching band. Very endearing habit. I honestly did not start loving this foster dog day one because she was more aloof. I am a dog person not really a cat person after all so cat behavior is not my cup of tea! Well, that did not last. A few days into our time with her I now say "I love you" and she comes up for pets by me now. Three days here and she went from sleeping in a tight ball to sleeping belly up and exposed on our couch.
